CheXcalibur is a next-generation hybrid chess platform designed to bridge the gap between physical board play and digital learning environments. It empowers players, coaches, clubs, and parents to connect, compete, and improve through a unified ecosystem. The platform blends traditional chess experience with modern technology, offering tools for coaching, performance tracking, community engagement, and tournament management.

CHALLENGE
Identifying the
Opportunity
Before CheXcalibur, most chess platforms focused either on online gameplay or static learning tools but not both. Coaches struggled to manage players and lessons efficiently, and players lacked real-time performance insights across both digital and over-the-board matches.

The challenge was to design a scalable ecosystem that could:
- Connect players, coaches, clubs, and parents in one experience.
- Preserve the physical chess culture while integrating smart analytics.
- Automate progress tracking and coaching feedback.
- Deliver an engaging, modern experience accessible to all skill levels.
SOLUTION / WHAT WE HAVE DONE
Discovery & Research Workshops
Upview Technologies began with in-depth user interviews with sponsored users to chess club managers and players to map user behaviors and real pain points. We identified key needs like smart tracking, social engagement, and simple coach–player communication, forming the foundation of the product roadmap.
Experience Design & Product Architecture
Our design team created an intuitive, playful, and performance-focused interface optimized for both web and mobile which is not overwhelming. By designing unique modules for players, coaches, and clubs we enabled easy navigation, progress visualization, and interactive training experiences while not sacrificing real board experience.
Engineering & Core Development
This mobile and web platform built using scalable cloud infrastructure and modern frameworks, the platform supports real-time coaching sessions, tournament data synchronization, and real-time analytics. CheXcalibur’s architecture allows easy expansion for new game modes, clubs, and geographies.
Quality Assurance & Beta Testing
Our QA process ensured stable gameplay, quick response times, and seamless synchronization across devices both online and offline. Through pilot testing with couple of expos and chess academies, we refined engagement features, rating systems, and user flows.
Launch & Ongoing Partnership
Upview supported CheXcalibur’s go-to-market launch, onboarding chess clubs, and early adopters across Sri Lanka and Asia. We continue to collaborate on advanced features such as AI-driven matchmaking, virtual tournaments, and wearable board integrations.
